Susan Blackwood loves to paint everything. Classically trained, her typical subjects range from people, animals, still life, landscapes, cityscapes, interiors and abstracts in an impressionistic-realism and contemporary styles. She loves the power of light falling on a subject and strives for emotion and often a story in her paintings.
Her mediums are oils, watercolors and mixed media.

Attended the American Art Academy in Chicago
Studied with over 20 Nationally Recognized Artists
Painting and Drawing teacher since 1975
National and International Painting and Teaching -In England, France, Italy, Croatia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, China, Wales, Portugal, Spain, The Bahamas, and all over the USA. Her workshops and classes are informational, encouraging and inspiring. She teaches a wide variety of subjects and styles in pencil, ink, watercolor and oils.

Nationally recognized, award-winning artist, Susan Blackwood received
Best of Show at the 2010 National American Women Artists Juried Exhibition.
Her 54 year painting career started with pen and ink and watercolors in 1972. Her paintings have won many national awards in Museum Shows, Nationally and Internationally, as an oil painter as well as a watercolorist. Susan Blackwood has a passion for teaching artists. Her combination of enthusiasm, encouragement and knowledge is the hallmark of her teaching.

She has been a professional artist and instructor since the early ‘70s. For 32 years, she was a professional watercolorist. In 2003 she ventured forth into the thick and gooey medium of oils and now, loves and paints in both mediums. Her watercolors and oils have been in many national shows and museums, winning top awards. Versatile is a good word to describe her styles and mediums.
In 2015, Blackwood added contemporary and abstract paintings to her variety of styles and artistic "language of painting".

China - In 2011 and 2014 Blackwood and her husband painter Howard Friedland traveled to China with master painter Tu Zhiwei and other master painters from America and Canada. Blackwood's paintings were exhibited in several museum and art gallery shows while there.
