Blog

I am writing this on Easter. As long as I can remember Easter was a time to gather together as a big family. Yes, we celebrated Christ’s Resurrection, but, as a little child, what I remember most, was my cousins and hunting for Easter eggs, then hiding them again and starting the hunt all over, again and again.

Each of us has memories to tap into to create paintings or even to commission an artist to paint for you. Pull out your old photos, kick back in your chair, and let the photos unfold your memories.

Here is one of my paintings that I created because of the great memories wrapped around a photo.

Sure, most old photos are less than lovely when it comes to composition and even the color may have faded or be awkward. That is where the artist comes in, moving things, making things bigger, or smaller or eliminating things that don’t work for the painting. I had to change a lot in the photo reference for this painting. This image had more in it. My two cousins were walking on different sides of the track. The sun wasn’t setting. There were more trees. I was actually off to the left side, too. All of that was rearranged, shifting things in and out to make the emotion that I wanted to remember.

60 years is a long time for a memory to be locked into a photo. Get out your photos and paint a memory for you and your family. If you aren’t an artist, then hire one to capture that special time. You will be glad you did.

Happy Easter and Happy Memories,

Susan
